Butoh
Event Description
Butoh
An immersive movement workshop exploring our connection with the environment. Drawing on Butoh techniques, Kuba Pawelczak invites participants to inhabit public spaces in new ways, moving with the architecture and atmosphere of the city. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to reclaim space and explore the body’s relationship to the world around us.
About the Artist
Kuba Pawelczak is a Polish movement artist, theatre maker, and Butoh practitioner. His work investigates the relationship between the body and the environment, often in unconventional or public spaces, to challenge perceptions and invite new ways of seeing. Kuba’s practice is informed by Butoh training with Atsushi Takenouchi, Ken Mai, Krzysztof Jerzak, and Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, alongside foundations in jazz, modern dance, Ashtanga yoga, and Pranayama.
He has performed and directed extensively across the UK, Poland, Germany, and Italy, and has facilitated movement and Butoh workshops internationally. Kuba co-founded the Aberystwyth Theatre Society, directing original productions such as Mabi and Rhinos, and his work has been presented at Aberystwyth Arts Festival, GrAFiTi Festival, and Aberystwyth Arts Centre. He currently trains in the Onishi Dance Method at the New Butoh School in Italy while completing an MFA in Movement: Directing and Teaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
